Following the resignation of the 2013 Steelform Wanganui Heartland Team Head Coach Karl Hoskin, the WRFU Board have reappointed Jason Caskey to the position as Head Coach for 2014.
Clearly the pressure of national competition rugby, local public pressure and poor performance and results of the 2013 team inevitably lead to the decision by Hoskin to resign after serving one year of a two year contract. It was never going to be an easy task given the success Steelform Wanganui has enjoyed in the current Heartland Competition format.
Past performances and results determined that expectation was high on priority, but they simply did not deliver on their performances on the day.
Jason Caskey threw a lifeline to the WRFU by requesting he be reappointed to the role that he served well in 2011 & 2012, returning a Meads Cup Championship title and a Meads Cup final, narrowly surrendering a huge lead and losing to Ngati Porou East Coast in an historical and memorable final in Ruatoria.
Jason will be ably supported by Guy Lennox and Jason Hamlin, a group of rugby gentlemen with abundant experience, talent and passion that will return Wanganui to the glory they have recently enjoyed since the inception of the national Heartland Championship competition.
