Obituary: Bruce Gower

Wanganui rugby has lost one of its former leading administrators with the sudden death of retired farmer Bruce Charles Gower early on Sunday morning.

Bruce Gower was an administrator for the Wanganui Rugby Football Union in the 1990s and early in the new millennium, serving on the union Board and also as chairman of the management committee.

He played for the Utiku and Old Boys club and also represented Northern Wanganui sub-union as a lock as well as serving on the committee of the club and sub union and the Counties club. He also played a leading role in helping raise finance for clubs, sub-unions and for the Wanganui union.

Bruce Gower was a prominent farmer in Mangaweka before the family purchased a farm on the Parapara Road in 1982. He retired in 2009 to live at No 2 Line, Okoia, near Wanganui. He joined the Wanganui Marist Rugby Club when he retired.

He was a very forthright and vocal rugby administrator and lauded all teams if they played well.

His funeral will be held in Wanganui at 3pm on Friday, August 14th.

Bruce is survived by his wife Josie plus children Andrea, Jenny, Shona and David, a former Wanganui representative rugby captain.
