Inaugural Hurricanes Heartland U20 Team Named

The U20 Hurricanes Heartland U20 Development side today (Poverty Bay/East Coast players absent because of travelling arrangements).

Following the conclusion of the Hurricanes Heartland U20 Development Series in Palmerston North today, the selectors have named the following team to compete in the Central Region Shield
tournament, which commences next Saturday, 20 August.

East Coast RFU: Jayden Milner.

Horowhenua-Kapiti RFU: Taina Keelan, Mikaere Hall, Brodie Huthnance, Ethan Reti.
Poverty Bay RFU: Ngahiwi Manuel.

Wairarapa-Bush RFU: Sam Siaosi, Alec Henricksen, Jack Loader, Bryan Arnold, Bradley Griffith,
Ryan Hargood, Ethan Pinfold.

Wanganui RFU: Dylan Gallien, Hamish Bennett, Chris Breuer, Dylan Bowater, Junior Ainea, Ethan
Robinson, Blade Jones, Shaquille McKay, Cameron Davies, Harry Symes.

The following players were also selected on a standby basis: Ihaia Kerr (Poverty Bay), Wiremu Taufa (Poverty Bay), Cameron Rowden (Poverty Bay), Nathaniel Payton (Horowhenua-Kapiti), Chance Ropiha (Wairarapa-Bush), Shaquille Waara (Wanganui).

The Hurricanes Heartland U20 Team is a new representative team selected by the Council for the first time in 2017 from the five Heartland  rovincial Unions in the Hurricanes region. The team will play the Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu and Wellington Under 19 teams over the next three weeks, in the Central Region Shield Tournament.

Wanganui defend Hurricanes U20 Cup

Wanganui have win a three-peat of Hurricanes Development Series Trophy tournaments, coming from behind to beat Horowhenua-Kapiti to win their third consecutive match of this weekend.

Horowhenua-Kapiti led Wanganui 17-12 with less than 10 to play, but Wanganui left their best to last to overtake them and pull clear to win 31-17.

Wanganui halfback Cameron Davies was awarded the Player of the Development Series Cup for a consistent three games behind the base of the scrum.

In today’s other match, Wairarapa-Bush defeated a determined Poverty Bay side 26-10, after leading 12-10 at half-time.
