Whanganui played a great team game against Horowhenua-Kapiti which saw them come away with a well-deserved win.

The Whanganui forwards stuck to their game plan, crashing the ball up and setting a good platform for the backs to initiate an attack. Some slick passing created space out wide and fullback, Daniel Kauika went in for the opening try.

Horowhenua-Kapiti struck back quickly catching our midfield off guard scoring close to the posts.

Whanganui immediately went on the offensive through our forwards and Callum Joblin went over out wide.

The half time score was 13 – 7 to Whanganui after Harerangi Meihana landed a penalty just before the break.

Horowhenua-Kapiti struck early in the second half scoring wide under the posts. Whanganui dug deep and came back with a good try out wide by Quaid Ponga.

Horowhenua-Kapiti went on the attack and scored with 5 minutes remaining. They missed the conversion which would have put them in front. Horowhenua-Kapiti gave it everthing in the last few minutes and looked like they could score when Junior Ainea intercepted a midfield pass and scored under the posts for Whanganui.

The final score was 25 -17 to Whanganui. It was a great pre-season hit out for the Whanganui U 18’s and a good start to their campaign
