TURBOS: The Manawatu Cyclones came back for a 31-28 win over the Wellington Pride in the Cake Tin on Friday night to start the Round 4 games of the Farah Palmer Cup. St Johns Wanganui Metro’s Sosoli Talawadua was at prop while clubmate Lavenia Nauga-Grey was named to make her debut off the bench. The Cyclones travel on Sunday to face the Otago Spirit.
COLLEGIATE: The Whanganui Collegiate 1st XV will be trying to win their first Quadrangular tournament since 1991 at Nelson College on Tuesday. Collegiate, runnersup the last two seasons, will play Christ’s College at 12pm, with the winner going into the final on Thursday against either hosts Nelson College or Wellington College. Collegiate has beaten Hato Paroa 38-14 and Cullinane College 78-3 in recent games.
HEARTLAND: In the battle of future Steelform Wanganui opponents, Wairarapa-Bush defeated King Country 22-18 in Masterton on Saturday, in a game for the new Lochore-Meads Memorial Scroll. Next week’s opposition, Horowhenua-Kapiti, picked up a 59-12 win against Central Hawke’s Bay. In the South Island games, Mid Canterbury beat North Otago 35-17, while South Canterbury defeated Buller 66-28.
